Making a movie in a 48 hour time period is never easy, but at least when you’re doing it with good friends it’s fun. This year was no exception.
Special Delivery is a clever written twist on the heist genre by Bonfire regulars Tyler Wood and Rebecca Johnson (The Barn). Being that Bonfire Films tends to gravitate towards darker films, it was a nice change of pace to make something off beat and comical.
This year’s production featured the highest level of acting that we’ve seen to date, which as a director, is the best thing I could wish for. Peter Campbell returns to Bonfire Films with the attitude as our lead character, a mastermind of a thief named Dean. Daniel Noel plays a bumbling old goof named Walt who desperately wanted his property returned to him, for fear of what it might due to his reputation. I’m always surprised in projects such as these by the level of commitment Daniel shows. He never hesitates to play odd ball characters or commit acts that would make other actors squeamish. This project also marked my first time working with Andrew Sawyer, who was not only an unbelievable actor, but also a very funny guy with little respect for his own clothing.
Although I had to bring my wife to the emergency room on Friday night, and read the names of the 2012 SMCC CNMS graduates on SUnday, we were still able to create a piece of work that I’m confident to say is one of our best films yet.
One interesting aside about this year’s production was the fact that during our opening jib shot, we actually caught someone crashing into a stone pillar on tape. Look for this during the opening shot of Special Delivery, making it’s way to the internet later this week.
Excerpt:
“The Barn has a vibe reminiscent of a Stephen King novel, owing in part to the fact that it was shot in King’s stomping grounds in central Maine. But more than that, it possesses some of the hallmark elements of King’s best writing – the dark secrets of a small town; the cruel little universe that children inhabit, overlooked and forgotten by oblivious adults; and an unseen and malevolent force that directs the unfortunate fates of the characters like an evil puppeteer.”
“All that filmmaking mayhem is the end result of students’ hard work in Southern Maine Community College’s advanced video and audio production applications course, taught by Corey Norman (chairman of SMCC’s communications and new media department and a local filmmaker).”
Excerpt:
“The Barn is a very enjoyable viewing experience, both visually and story wise, it does a wonderful job at keeping the viewer captivated. The Cinematography is absolutely breath taking at times, perfectly capturing the atmosphere of small town U.S.A. Through the use of crafty camera angles, complimented by top notch editing and impeccable use of music, the film manages to create an authentically creepy experience in the span of 31 minutes.”
Tonight I was on WCSH6’s television show 207 talking about this year’s Film Chowdah: The Maine College Film festival.
The New Jersey based band Flash Fire recently came to me to help them with their upcoming music video for “With You.” Check out the promo, and donate if you can. This thing is going to be dropping on Fuse Tv and Fear.net.

“We’re getting together with Director Corey Norman of Bonfire Films to make a music video for our song “With You” off the “Ashes” EP. Corey is a master of Horror and is going to help us push this video to the limits. It will be a parody of The Walking Dead, Left For Dead and a mix of other tolkein Zombie mediums.
To kick it up another notch… we are releasing our EP, “Ashes” as part of the donation prizes. We are so excited to finally get this music out to everyone!
We need your help to make this as awesome as it can be. That means more zombies, more effects, and a ton of other fun stuff.
We’ve thought of some great incentives for you including a Flash Fire fun bag, a chance to be transformed into a zombie for the video, and an exclusive theme park vacation with the band!
Thank you so much for donating, we can’t thank you enough!
